School Break

Today is the last day of school for 6 weeks.
We are taking down our computers and wrapping up chords.....cleaning up disks and clearing out drawers.
The kids are elated, and I'm rather glad for the break.
But it is bittersweet.
Everyone is doing so well this year... and I love to hear their excitement at learning about something new.
I also love how exhausted their minds are when they study, that they have little time to really argue.
Oh well.
It's all good.
My sister likes to throw in digs about our choice in homeschooling... she got her degree in education. Her last comment to me was in response to my daughter not being overly driven (no pun intended) to get her drivers permit.

She said, " You need to get her into public school. That will motivate her."

Hm. Honestly, I don't see the correlation. How do you explain the next daughter who is counting down the seconds until it's her turn?? My first daughter has simply no need to drive....and just doesn't care.
I can never understand someone's need to constantly tell me what I need to be doing with my kids regarding homeschooling. I know she means well...but sometimes I wonder what she hopes to accomplish by making these comments when I speak with her. I realize that most of my family thinks I'm crazy for doing what I do... And that's ok... It's just a shame that people can't just accept people's choices for what they are... they're own. Instead of pointing their finger at what I'm doing wrong, they should take time to get to know my kids... Such a better use of energy. I'm sure I would never tell them that how they raise their kids is wrong....I wouldn't presume to know what's best for them.
*sigh*
