Every mother's curse...
Surely every child has heard of this curse, or variations of it...
May you have children, and may they be just like you were.
In my life B.T. (before teens), I had fleeting moments when I thought of the curse my parents loved to recite to me... but only in brief, fleeting thoughts. In that time, I thought they meant more personality similarities.
"Ha Ha", I'd think. "Very Funny."
Baby with Colic?
Terrible Two's?
Potty Training?
General Stubborness, messiness, all around childness?
No-ho-ho.
That's not what the curse meant at ALL.
Not. Even. Close.
For all the times I mentally rolled my eyes...
For all the times I balked about their irritating, unrealistic rules...
For all the times I thought I was smarter than my parents,
For all the times I rebelled at my parents "control" issues,
For all the times I stayed out past curfew,
For all the times I rejected their disapproval at my sarcasm at my siblings,
For all the times I strutted my arogant self around, all knowing.
For all the times I vowed the words, "When I am a mother, I'll never..."
Yeh.
The prophecy has now come to pass.
And Now, I dutifully passed the curse along to my own child.
Outloud.
And I meant it.
