Sweet Sunday
It's not often I sit through testimony meeting without feeling frustrated with the "thanktimonies" or "travel-log-amonies".
Today, a popular, cute, young man of 17 got up at the very beginning of the meeting. He began with "I don't have a wonderful conversion story to tell. Only a testimony that the gospel is true." He went on to tell us about the previous night.
Prom.
He mentioned that 12 of our youth went together (6boys and 6girls). He mentioned the choices that non-member girls at prom chose, and how cheap and ugly they looked, and he was grateful that he could just have fun with his date and all the kids that they went with, without being distracted by plunging necklines, and sleeveless-strapless dresses. He went into description of many of the styles that left us all laughing hysterically.
That one statement from this sweet cute popular boy, screamed volumes to my girls.... and did in one moment, what I've strived my whole "mommy-life" to teach my daughters.
If only every single ward had a good looking, popular, cool guy in their ward to say the exact same thing.... the church would never have a problem with their YW wearing immodest clothing. Our young men can really set the standards for our girls.
After Sacrament meeting, I went over to his mother and thanked her for raising a son who was brave enough to stand in front of his peers and speak out for modesty. I'm so grateful there are women who are striving to raise their boys to be the kind of boys I want my daughters to marry someday.
The rest of the meeting continued with the usual travelogs and thanktimonies... but I dwelled on the first testimony with relish.
