Real or make believe?

Many people I have talked with, and several blogs, have been discussing whether or not to teach their kids about "the bunny".
'Tis the season...
You know what's coming.. huh?!
My opinion.....
Like a tushy... Everyone's got one. :)
I grew up in a religious home, learning the purpose of Easter and Christmas from the moment we understood language. My parents made SURE we knew exactly why we celebrated those holidays.
Santa and E.B always came by our house. As well as Miss Fairy.
One of my sisters and one of my brothers do not teach their kids about "the bunny" or "santa" or the "tooth fairy", because they feel it takes away from the sacredness of the holiday--and tricks kids. I have another sister who's husband doesn't believe in celebrating Halloween, that pagan holiday. He doesn't know anything about the holiday. He just knows what his mom taught him.
Believe me when I say that since my children were very, very small, we taught them the true meaning of Christmas, Easter and every other major holiday. Even not so major holiday's. We have researched the meanings and origions of each holiday and discussed what our religion teaches about each subject. We've had some great teaching moments, both for the children and for myself.
We've always discussed the world's point of view on the same subjects; learning about other religious traditions...and even participating in a few. (Some of us learned that Lent is a tough thing, especially when you give up CHOCOLATE! 40 days without chocolate!? Not a pretty sight!)
We've always taught our children to pray for answers, to make up their OWN minds, and when they reach a certain maturity, they figure it out on their own. From the get-go...when any are questioning the facts, we always say "What do you think?" We want them to trust themselves.
It's a lot more work, to insure they KNOW the real reason behind these Holidays. But totally worth it to me. I'm glad they can have a little silly fun, at the same time learning about what our Savior did for us and why it's so important.
Just my opinion...
That, with a dollar might by you a chocolate bunny!

"If a man fights his way through his doubts to the conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord, he has attained to a certainty that the man-- who unthinkingly accept things--- can never reach."
