I've mentioned a few times how the van we brought over here has plagued me. It plagued me before we came here...and we've probably paid in repairs what the darn thing cost us in the first place new. With nothing to show for it...as it has been in the shop since last December. Why?? Well, first... the dealer wants another 6,000- 8,000 EURO (which roughly converts to $8,000-$10,000.) to put in a new engine (again) and replace the heater core and a sensor for the transmission. We just don't have it. And besides, if we did.... we sure the heck wouldn't be putting it in that LEMON...we'd put it down on a NEW car instead. So we cut our losses. Gave it to the dealer for parts. We have a 2nd car... A little Fiat. Seats 4 comfortably, but has seatbelts for 5. A drives it back and forth to work. So we aren't completely car-less. A lamented about all that money we shelled out over the years, with NOTHING to show for it now. I was just so grateful to not have to worry about what will break down next... I didn't care that I was car-less for so long. We have, afterall, a bus and train within walking distance from our house. If I was really desperate.. I could take him to work and use the car. Our friends nearby helped get us to church. We briefly owned a Dodge Caravan....which promptly broke down on the way back from registering it. We've had friends loan us cars here and there. We've rented a van for long trips we've taken as a family....which took a good chunk of our spending money. Today, A is picking up our new-to-us van as I sit and type this. It isn't new... in fact it is the same age as the plague van. Different make tho-Plymouth Grand Voyager. And it's green--Never thought I'd own a green car. But we will finally be able to go to church as a family. I will be able to come and go as I please without having to make arrangements first. I can hardly wait. Too bad I'm too sick to care about going somewhere today. Maybe tomorrow.
