'Tis the Season...

'Tis the allergy season...I have mentioned briefly our car problems...... The first being that we bought a Ford Windstar Lx. We have never NOT had something wrong with the darn thing. After ENORMOUS payments and living on next to nothing to afford it.... we have never ceased to have ridiculous problems with it....recall after recall, and then head gaskets, oil leaks, transmission leaks, brakes--more often than normal, a new engine, radiator, the little brackets that hold the muffler on, (No, Really.) 2 windshields, and now the heater core, the head gasket and some cylindar thingy. Believe me when I say that it is not because we drive it like maniacs. We baby it like crazy. We have it in the shop right now...and it has been there since the 6th of December. For the amount of money it will cost to repair it, we can have a VERY large down payment on a new car, or buy another used, but very reliable car.
So, that's the plan.
In an effort to make money for our CAR FUND, the kids and I have taken on the job of cleaning stairwells in our neighborhood. It is stinking hard work. Fortunatly for us, they are officer quarters stairwells, and pay well. Also fortunatly for us, the Stairwell Coordinators of each of the Stairwells are members of the church, which makes it a lot easier to get paid on time!
The last few weeks, some of the kids have been sick---E the longest--so they have stayed home while the rest of us well ones do the work.
Today, when I reminded them of our schedule, which included our weekly stairwells cleaning, E made the "ug" face. A few minutes later, she came to me and said "My ears hurt, Momma." I told her that it didn't matter, she was still coming with us. (Now before you think someone in my neighborhood should be calling CPS--the precious was just dancing and singing to Shania Twain's CD like mad.) She came over about 10 more minutes later and said she felt like she was going to throw up. I told her to bring a bucket with us, because she wasn't going to stay home. Her cressfallen face reflected her inner voice, whispering "Darn." When I told her to bring her shoes to me, she came to me with them, plopped down on the floor, put her foot up on my lap in resignation. E: "Mom, I think I'm allergic to my shoes." Me (while looking at her with the "yeh, right" face): What makes you think so? E: Well, my nose is itchy. (demonstrating with the instant "allergy" face). Me: (stifling a huge laugh) Too bad. You're going anyway. E: (again with the crestfallen face) "Darn." I am happy to report that the ear infection, stomach problem, and allergies have miraculously disappeared. She is outside playing at the park, running her little heart out, shouting "You-u ca-an't catch me" to her brother.
