Save the Ta-Ta's...

I know I've mentioned it a time or two...
but... I'm going to again!
My dad was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2004.
By the time he discovered it...it was the size of a golf-ball.
It is terminal. (I believe he was diagnosed Stage 4 at the time.)
All because he didn't realize he should be doing self-breast exams.
If he had, he might have discovered it sooner, and maybe been cured.
None of us had any idea.
It is way more common than most people realize.
He is still with us and has up days and down days.
Just after he was diagnosed,
our entire family-boys and girls alike-
were admonished to have a mammogram/sonogram done.
When I went to my own doctor, he expressed confusion on the subject...and would only perform a sonogram, as I was 'too young' to have a mammogram. Sonograms are very just as intense.
There is not enough information on Hereditary Breast Cancer from the paternal side of family. There is simply not enough data.
Ladies... do a monthly self-exam for yourself
and for your partner.
Or in the words of my lil' sis...
"HAVE THOSE MAMMIES GRAMMED!"

Well I posted my MBCA (Male Breast Cancer Awareness) post this morning. I found some great new links this year. I was a day later than I wanted to be but at least is isn't the middle or end of the month. Over the past 3 years anytime I hear the words breast cancer I think of your dad. Please know that your family is being thought of and prayed for often.

Miss you-
Heather

Yippee for saving the ta-tas! My mom had breast cancer back about 20 years ago, so I've been mamming it up since I was 30.

When my mother was diagnosed, a geneticist came and talked to our entire family... She was able to go through all our genetic factors of the potential for breast cancer, and tell us of our risk genetically...It was really interesting (and relieving) to hear all the information.

The day after her diagnosis, my sister and I both got "smooshed"...TWICE...And we will have check-ups every six months.

In two to three weeks my mom will start chemo...Her tumor was over 5 cm big (not good), between stage 3 and 4,a trace of cancer was found in her lymph nodes, and she has those exterior cell-extremities that allow for accelerated growth...Here we go!!!

I'll probably have questions for you soon...
