Programs

Sunday we had my favorite treat of the year: The Childrens Sacrament Meeting Program!
For the almost 5 years I'd been primary president... I looked forward to the rewards of a long year of hard work on everyone's behalf. I love to see those precious spirits sing their hearts out for their proud parents.
This year, it was strange to see it from the outside looking in.
Sadly... the program was pretty lame... and I don't mean that mine were always so awesome that this one stunk in comparison. I mean it was awful.
I cannot STAND it when the microphone is passed around from kid to kid. It sounds awful, the kid usually breathes and spits all over the thing, and inevitably you get the kid who loves to "test" out the on off switch during someone else's turn to talk.
OH, and..um...yes. This time it was one of my own.
When the microphone reached E... her nearly-eight-year-old face lit up.
But wait... they had to sing a song first... No problem for her. She decided to "practice" using the microphone and proudly sang her heart out..... With the mic button "ON".
No one on the stand could hear that she was singing into the microphone...
Oh, but the entire audience could.
I figured that it would be her turn to say her part, after the song...so I didn't stress about telling them. Wrong.2 more songs went by with our little darling singing her heart out using the microphone... and it was when only the teachers were singing a song, and she proudly provided harmonic "Ooohs and Ahhhhs", when I finally sent my oldest up to the front, to inform the pianist of the impromtu "solo" and to have her turn off the mic until it was her turn to speak.People smiled... craned their necks to give us that knowing wink...I initially wanted to crawl under the pew.
But then I realized...The program may have been lame, but it was awesome to hear my own daughter sing proudly, sweetly, and mercifully on key to all her favorite songs that bear testimony of the gospel.
Never be afraid of the moments - thus sings the voice of the ever-lasting.~~Rabindranath Tagore
