First Date
She came in from work, the cold air nipping her cheecks into a rosy frenzy.
Her dicarded coat, scarf and purse quickly forgotten as she shouted my name.
"Mom! Mom!
You'll never guess what happened."
I dried my hands on the towel and turned to look at my girl.
Her eyes glistened with joy and excitement.
"He finally asked me!!"
I smiled, and breathed a sigh of relief.
Finally... her lamenting days, weeks, months of not having had her first date yet, were finally over.
She bubbled their date plans as I wiped down the counters, and I smiled as I listened.
"Oh, what should I wear? Oh gosh. I need to shower. Oh no time.... I need to at least wash my hair. Can you believe it?Ohmygosh. He's gonna be here in just a half hour."
In a whirlwind of flurry, she was out the door.
I closed my eyes as the screen door banged close, and said a little prayer of Gratitude.
Later on, when she came in, she positively glowed.
As usual, she climbed on my bed to regale me with her adventures.
How grateful I am that she still wants to tell me about her life.
Her parting words, before scurrying off to bed to dream of her next date, made me both sad and glad.
"Too bad he's leaving for his mission in January."
*sigh*
