skate on by

Today we took the kids to a good old fashioned skating rink.
I read an ad about it, and went to their web site and was thrilled to find discount tickets.
Not only that, I managed to print off freebie vouchers as well.
Paid $7 for us to get in, A dollar each.
skate rental was free and we got vouchers for 20 free tokens EACH.
Did you catch that!?
For a change, we didn't have to shell out a small fortune for every. single. person. in my family to have a blast.
Remember that really cute DJ who's voice was so loud, shouting out the upcoming games?... While the BeeGee's blared from oversized speakers, and the lights flicked to the beat of the bass? Remember the black light effect, wearing white jeans you thought you looked hot in, just so you'd glow? Remember that one boy you'd skate past over and over, pretending not to notice, while sporting your awesome moves?
Yeh. Hasn't changed. I could see the past through my daughters.
Amazing how that doesn't change with time.
One down side,
Achilles hurt himself rather badly on his pathetic, albethem free, skates.
He thought he'd broken his ankle... and I'm not ruling it out just yet.
I'd been snapping pictures of the kids in action all night,
and had snapped a few of him skating hand in hand with each of his daughters and clowning around with his son....
when I snapped a few of him while he laid sprawled out on the bench, looking truly sad.
He scowled at me... so I asked him if he didn't want me to take a picture of it.
He said "NO. I don't want you posting it to your blog, and the world could read about what a clutz I am, AGAIN."
*sigh*
The rest of the night was spent in the arcade... where the ticket frenzy took place. The kids played games like DDR, skeeball, jumprope, and airhocky. Hands down, though, the most fun game of the night, proclaimed by all, was "DEAL or NO DEAL". Best winner in our group? AJ...he won 60 tickets.
I hope the kids remember days like these... and file it away for easy recall.
I know I will.

Oh man that sounds like so much fun (minus the ankle pain of course). I haven't skated like that since I was a kid and I'm not even sure that I could anymore. I'm afraid that I would spend a LOT of time on my bum :o)
